Preparing the DeckThere are several variations of this game depending on how many players, and the general level of expertise. PlayersThree to five or six players, usually four. Like in chess, each player may develop his or her own style of playing. The game involves some luck but mostly strategy. The last player with cards in hand is the loser. There is no single winner, but there is a single loser. Both of the attacking players also fill in their hands with the cards from the deck before the next round begins.Durak Durak (Russian for Stupid)This rules rendition by Alejandro Tkaczevski. The defending player then fills his hand with the cards in the deck so that his hand contains six cards and becomes the attacker while the player to his left becomes the defending player. Once the attack is successfully defended, the cards on the table are considered to be “beaten” and are taken out of the game until the next game begins. When the first attacker is done, the player sitting to the left of the defending player may contribute to the attack, adhering to the same principle.
The person sitting to his left defends by beating the card with a higher ranking card of the same suit or by any of the trump cards.Īfter the card is beat, the attacker is allowed to proceed with another attack but only using cards of the same rank as the cards which had already been placed in the middle by either attacking or the defending player. Then, the player makes an attack by placing a card of his choice in the middle of the table.
He might be asked to demonstrate the lowest trump card to other players while the other five cards remain hidden. The player holding the lowest trump card moves first.
